Kindergarten association

Run by parents

Although we are a private kindergarten, we are not a business: the kindergarten is run by the Parents’ Association. Because we operate on a non-profit basis, our only aim is to make sure both the children and the staff are happy when they are at the kindergarten. Our day care services are inspected and regulated by Joensuu City Council.

When a child receives a place at the kindergarten, the parents automatically become members of the Parents’ Association. As members you have a wonderful opportunity to participate in decision making and to actively influence your child’s education.

What does the membership of the Parents’ Association mean in practice?

When a child receives a place at the kindergarten, the parents automatically become members of the Parents’ Association. The membership fee for each family is €100 per term, i.e. €200 per academic year.

The association has two meetings each year, one during the autumn term and the other during the spring term. The meetings are held in conjunction with the parents’ evenings. During the spring meeting the parents elect a board for the next academic year.
The board is made up of seven to eight parents who meet as and when needed, usually half a dozen times per year. The board is in charge of the budget and takes care of recruitment among other things. The Parents’ Association offers every parent an opportunity to participate in decision making. However, each family can decide for themselves how much they are willing to participate and what is their preferred level
of involvement. In the past the Parents’ Association has organised bake sales, jumble sales and other fundraising events.

Together we can create the kind of kindergarten community where both the children and the adults feel
happy!
